Almost 30 migrants hidden in trucks carrying car parts and toilet lids, caught at the border

The border policemen from Nădlac II and Vărșand caught almost 30 migrants who were trying to cross the Romanian border illegally, hidden in TIR trucks registered in Turkey and Bulgaria. One of the trucks was carrying car parts, and the other was carrying toilet lids and porcelain, News.ro reports.

“On 26.09.2024, at the Nădlac II Border Crossing Point, a Turkish citizen, at the wheel of a road vehicle registered in Turkey, presented himself to perform the border formalities on the way out of the country. The truck driver was transporting, according to documents accompanying the goods, car parts on the Turkey – Germany route. Following the thorough control of the means of transport, 27 foreign citizens were discovered hidden in the semi-trailer, among the transported goods”, the Border Police said in a press release from Thursday.

The migrants were taken to the headquarters of the sector for investigation where, following checks, the border police established that they were citizens of Iraq and Syria who intended to fraudulently cross the state border.

Another migrant, from Guinea, was found hiding in a TIR registered in Bulgaria.

“At the Vărşand Border Crossing Point, our colleagues carried out the control over a truck registered in Bulgaria, driven by a Bulgarian citizen, which was transporting toilet lids and porcelain from Bulgaria to Germany. Following the control, it was discovered, in the semi-trailer, among the transported goods are a male person. During the preliminary checks, the border police established that he is a citizen of Guinea,” the Border Police also stated.

Drivers are investigated for migrant smuggling, while people hidden in TIRs are investigated for fraudulent crossing of the state border.
