It’s been a busy summer at airports across the country. In August alone, almost 2.8 million passengers traveled by plane, more than before the pandemic.
In general, they chose Schengen countries. From Bucharest airports, for example, most departures were to Italy, but Greece or Spain were also sought.

However, Italy was this year in the top flight holiday destinations. From the Henri Coandă Airport in Otopeni and from Băneasa, over 2,100 flights to different areas of the peninsula took off between June and August.
With more than 1,300 flights, all-inclusive holidays offered by hotels and resorts in Turkey have placed the country at number 2 in the list of preferences. In third place is England, known as a business destination, but also a country where a large community of Romanians work.

And also from Otopeni, many of the flights scheduled this summer took passengers on vacation to Spain, Greece or France. In total, almost 2.8 million passengers transited Romanian airports during August, according to profile data.
At the largest airport in the country, in August alone over 1.6 million people traveled to various destinations around the world. And even though plane tickets have become more expensive, the number of passengers has increased by 8 percent compared to the same month last year and by 14 percent compared to the same period in 2019, considered the best year in the aviation industry.
Of the total number of passengers registered at Romanian airports in August, 67% traveled in the Schengen area, according to data from the Romanian Airports Association.
Most of the planes, almost 1,000, that took off from Otopeni, but also from Baneasa airport, went to London. 698 planes flew to Sper Antalya and 551 flights to Istanbul during the three summer months. Romanians also chose Vienna, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam or Tel-Aviv this summer.
