Following an online creative science competition for schools in Timișoara, Secondary School no. 7 “Sfânta Maria” was named the winner of eight Mattika Explore brand Steam workshops.
The following participated in the Mattika Explore contest, initiated on September 17 on the social media pages: Secondary School no. 12, Banățean National College, “Iris” Special Theoretical High School, “Grigore Moisil” Theoretical High School and High School no. 7 “Saint Mary”.
The competition was held online, on the Mattika Explore Facebook page, the school that collected the most likes of the drawing or a collage sent on the subject of science and the related justification was chosen, the continuation of the sentence: “We want the science workshops to reach our school because…”
The winning package includes two workshops in which children will build a drawing robot, two workshops in which they will paint with the help of chemical reactions, two workshops in which they will discover the colorful world of chemistry and two workshops in which they will build a kaleidoscope. The eight creative science workshops, which combine scientific knowledge (physics, chemistry, biology) with creative ways of expression (painting, drawing, handicrafts) will be organized by Irma Baloirepresentative of Mattika Explore, in October, at Secondary School no. 7.
The project creative science, the Mattika Explore brand, prepares future generations for the economic fields and creative industries of the next technological wave. This project aimed to create a framework in which primary school students want to be curious, imaginative and creative through science and art, through play methods and complement the theoretical knowledge taught in the school curriculum, addressing subjects such as chemistry and physics through play, acquiring the necessary skills to continue experimenting on their own.
These actions are part of the project Creative sciencethe program Culture Now 2024, financed by the Municipality of Timișoara through the Timișoara Project Center.
Irma Băloi (of Estonian origin), representative of Mattika Explore, organizes creative-scientific workshops for children from 2021. The workshops are held in after-schools as optional workshops or in schools, as part of Green Week or School otherwise. Also, Irma Băloi supported various educational workshops for children and adults during the Plai festival starting in 2018, and in 2023 she organized experimentation and creation workshops for children within the project The Water Museum – connection to the cultural network of Timișoara financed by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara.
